Rush Copley Medical Center, a destination for excellence in health care with an academic connection to Rush University System for Health, invites applications for the position of VP, Medical Affairs & Chief Medical Officer. This position has overall responsibility for professional management of all clinical, educational, research and administrative matters related to the functioning of Medical Staff. It is also accountable to the Medical Staff and the Board of Directors for organizational compliance with the Medical Staff Bylaws to reach the organizational mission of providing advanced medicine with quality outcomes and extraordinary care. Rush Copley in Aurora, Illinois has served the residents of the greater Fox Valley area for more than 130 years. This 210-bed hospital has 500 physicians on staff in more than 60 specialties.

Position Description:

Medical Staff Affairs

• Develops and enhances the overall tone, philosophy and the general policies that influence the functions of the organized medical staff to support the Hospital's mission, vision and values of service to the patient and to the community.
• Ensures the composition of the medical staff meets the needs of the community.
• Act as the primary liaison between the Medical Staff, Administration and the Board of Directors, unifying the medical staff, enabling them to work in partnership with hospital Administration toward common organizational goals.
• Promotes the advancement of medical care through continuing medical education, and planning programs for improvement.
• Coaches and mentors medical staff officers, department and committee chairman, and medical directors.
• Represents the hospital administration at the following meetings: Medical Staff, Medical Executive Committee, Board of Directors, selected RUSH System meetings, Quality and Safety Council, and other departmental administrative or medical staff meetings as scheduled.

Quality and Patient Safety

• Serves as a leader for the Quality and Safety Council
• Monitors the quality of medical care and develops improvement teams when necessary.
• Maintains accountability for the quality and safety of patient care provided by the medical staff.
• Collaborates with local and RUSH system leaders to achieve national quality & safety benchmarks, designations and awards.
• Ensures patient/medical care compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Medical Staff Office

• Oversees the medical staff credentialing/privileging and peer review processes.
• Ensures compliance in areas related to the medical staff.

Rush System & Educational Program

• Assists with the unification of the RUSH Medical Group.
• Serves as the medical staff liaison to the Office of the Medical staff at Rush University Medical Center and the Dean of Rush Medical College.
• Participates with the aid of departmental chairpersons in the development and implementation of institutional programs throughout the RUSH system.
• Assists in the development, ongoing evaluation, and modification of the RUSH Copley Family Practice Residency program, and other medical educational programs.?

Community Expertise

• Serve as a liaison in appropriate medical matters with the local medical community, organized medical societies, and community organizations.
• Work cooperatively with community relations in preparing and disseminating medical news reports to the public.
• Participate in activities within the community supportive of the institution's role in local life.

Customer Populations this Position Services: Infants, children, young adult, adult, and geriatric users who enter the facility or any satellite for care/services.

Position Requirements:

• MD or DO, licensed in the State of Illinois.
• Graduate level continuing education in healthcare administration, business or medical management is desired.
• Successful track record in physician leadership with a minimum of 5 years of experience is essential.
• A self-motivated leader who displays a good sense of professionalism and judgment, trust and courage, and a vision that is clearly articulated to inspire and challenge others to reach their potential commitment.
• Clinical credibility and skill in facilitating both primary and specialty care medical staff in their changing roles with the emergence of managed care is required.
