Why US?
UMMC Surgical Intensive Care Unit is a 24-bed adult critical care unit specializing in care of 10-15 surgical services. Surgical services are supported in the SICU include but not limited to: emergency surgery, transplant, thoracic, ENT, orthopedics, OMFS, gynecology, surgical oncology, and vascular surgery.
SICU orientation length is based on your current level of skills and prior experience. We have a dedicated nurse educator that works to tailor orientation directly to your needs. We have several SICU specific classes you will take to master the skills and equipment we use on this unit. New graduate nurses will also be enrolled in the hospital-wide New Graduate Residency program to offer additional support. There are multiple learning opportunities beyond orientation that provide bedside nurses with advanced skills.
The SICU has a unit-based shared governance structure to allow all nurses to participate in decision making. This local structure also supports the hospital-wide governance structure, providing a SICU voice at all levels of decision making.
Renowned as the academic flagship of the University of Maryland Medical System, our Magnet(r)-designated facility is a nationally recognized, academic medical center with opportunities across the continuum of care. Come join UMMC and discover the atmosphere where talents and ideas come together to enhance patient care and advance the science of nursing. Located in downtown Baltimore near the Inner Harbor and Camden Yards, you won't find a more vibrant place to work!
