Job Summary
The Duke Hospital Neuro ICU Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) provides direct patient care services for critically ill complex (multi-organ) patients in an intensive care setting in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Neuro ICU Teams. The NP/PA performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, coordinates the care and discharge of patients, and provides direct patient care services. The NP/PA contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization.
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
PA Graduate of ARC accredited Physician Assistant Program, prefer Master's or DMSc Degree
NP Graduate of accredited MSN or DNP Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program for adult care.
Both: Critical Care Fellowship Training preferred.
License
PA Current unrestricted license issued by NCMB with authorization to practice as PA
NP Current unrestricted RN license issued by NCBON with authorization to practice as NP
Certification
PA PA-C
NP Nationally recognized critical care certification for adult care, e.g., ACNP, AGACNP or CCNP
Experience
PA 1 year experience as PA in an adult critical care setting OR a one year Critical Care Fellowship
NP 3 years RN experience in critical care setting + 1 year NP experience, preferably Neuro related
(may also consider equivalent combinations of required/preferred education and experience)
Job Hours
Primary hours will be 12 or 24 hour rotating shifts. The APP team covers 7 days per week including holiday, nights and weekends. Schedule may be changed by administrative or clinical leadership to meet department needs.
