Summary:
The Interim Assistant Residency Director (ARD) will have full responsibilities of an ARD during the specified term. The ARD is a faculty-level position with shared responsibility for administration of the Emory Emergency Medicine residency training program. The ARD will be responsible for emergency medicine trainees at one level (EM-1, EM-2, or EM-3) and for class-specific curriculum development and deployment. In addition to the individual responsibilities, the ARD participates in other important functions of the residency, including recruitment, program accreditation, resident and program evaluation, and special events. The ARD reports to the Program Director.
Responsibilities:
The ARD has (1) general responsibilities to the residency program as well as responsibilities that are either (2) level of training specific, or (3) research specific
Management Structure:
The ARDs provide a horizontal management structure that allows a close level of supervision of the residents and the program. Each ARD is responsible for supervising the performance of residents in his/her assigned level of training (EM- 1, 2, or 3). In this capacity, the ARD serves as a facilitator for both his/her residents and the different off-service rotation directors. The Program Director is responsible for overall coordination of the residency.
Support:
Administrative support and office space is provided. The ARD receives a modest reduction in clinical hours and support to attend the annual CORD Academic Assembly.
Career Development:
The opportunity to serve as Interim ARD will provide excellent training and experience for those faculty members who are interested in progressing on the SOM promotion pathway (Achievement in Institutional Teaching) as well as developing the skills necessary to manage an Emergency Medicine residency program.
Qualifications:
Competitive candidates for this position will have already demonstrated involvement in undergraduate or graduate medical education and will have earned positive teaching evaluations.
Application:
All interested candidates will be considered for the position of Interim ARD. The final decision will be made by the Interim Program Director and Vice Chair for Education in consultation with the Department Chair. The Interim ARD will have the option to reapply for a permanent ARD position once a permanent Program Director is named.
