The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Basel and the Department of Acute Medicine of the University Hospital Basel are looking to fill the position of Professor and Chair of Intensive Care Medicine. The University Hospital Basel is the tertiary academic center in Northwest Switzerland and one of the five Swiss University Hospitals. It delivers highly specialized care in all disciplines of Medicine and Surgery, including all highly specialized procedures. The ICU is embedded within the Department of Acute Medicine and works in close cooperation with Anesthesiology and other specialized clinics to run the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) and IMCU-like units. High-quality research takes place within the Research Departments of the Faculty of Medicine, namely Clinical Research, Biomedical Engineering, and Biomedicine. The “life science hub” in Basel offers outstanding opportunities for research collaborations with the pharmaceutical industry, the ETH, and several biomedical companies.
Your positionYou will run the clinic and lead the didactic and research activities of the Intensive Care Clinic at the University Hospital in Basel. You will be responsible for medical, financial and organizational management. Your clinical expertise and research activity will strengthen the national and international visibility of the University of Basel. Your clinical and teaching expertise will sustain and secure state-of-the-art training and continuing education according to the requirements of the Swiss Institute for Medical Training and Continuing Education (SIWF). You will lead a research group, creating and supporting a productive environment for successful research teams.
Your profileYou have broad experience in all areas of Intensive Care and significant clinical expertise in one subspecialty of relevance for a highly specialized academic hospital. You have the necessary further training certificates according to the Swiss Program for Intensive Care Medicine or equivalent titles*. You have successfully conducted your own research, including securing competitive third-party funding, in a relevant research area of Intensive Care. You have solid leadership experience within an academic environment. Your distinctive expertise, leadership, and communication skills generate a broad and high level of acceptance and trust. You are able to create an attractive and motivating work environment, and to inspire creative thinking that can be put into action. Your German language skills are good or excellent. Your commitment to university research and teaching inspires students and young academic specialists.
