The cardiothoracic ICU cares for complex patients with multiple-system conditions, including adult congenital anomalies and heart and lung transplant patients needing post-surgical care. With nurse-patient ratios that promote patient safety and patient/family satisfaction, nurses care for patients with the very latest technology, which includes telemedicine. An interdisciplinary team provides patients the very latest in evidenced-based practice, procedures and techniques including non-invasive monitoring, mechanical ventilation, ventricular assist devices and complex cardiothoracic surgical procedures.

Nurses care for complex patients with multiple-system conditions including adult congenital anomalies as well as heart and lung transplant patients needing post-surgical care. With nurse-patient ratios that promote patient safety and patient/family satisfaction, nurses care for patients with the very latest technology. In a collaborative environment, an interdisciplinary team provides patients the very latest evidence-based practice, procedures and techniques including invasive monitoring, mechanical ventilation, ventricular assist devices and complex cardiothoracic surgical procedure
Role Purpose
Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of critical care nursing to patients who require a high level of clinical expertise.
