Duke Nursing Highlights:
Perform a variety of nonprofessional nursi ngduties in the direct careof patients under the direct supervision of a nRN/LPN.
Prepare patients, equipment a nd supplies for specific procedures andprovide manual assistance as requ ired.Obtain and record patient data for medical records noting and infor mingRN/LPN of information collected.Administer treatment and personal ca re procedures to patients including,but not limited to, feeding, bathing ,shaving, changing clothing,cleaning and trimming fingernails, bed-makin g,assisting withambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder eli mination;provide such additional care as required to meet the personal n eeds andcomfort of assigned patients.Participate in teaching activitiesb yreinforcing teaching instructed byRN and/or physician as needed.Assistp hysician and nurses with physical examinations by helpingposition patien ts, changing non-sterile dressing and weighing patients.Take and recordv ital signs, record I&O, apply ice bags, administerdouches and enemas.Not e and report any changes in patient'scondition.Turn and position patien ts, set up andfeed patients as necessary,provide patients with freshdrin king water.Perform fingersticks for blood glucose testing, with appropri atetraining.Assist with admission, discharge, and transportation ofpatie nts.Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipmentasr equired.Collect, deliver and conduct routine tests on patient specimens. Clean assigned area; stock and replenish supplies and equipment asrequir ed.Participate in own professional development by maintaining requiredsk ills validation and attending educational offerings. Support thedevelopm ent of other staff and formal learners.May also perform sterile dressing change for wounds over 48 hours old,IV fluid assistance activities,oral /nasogastric feeding and urinarycatherizations/irrigation.Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein.

Completion of a Level I - Nurse Aide education program approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or successful completion of the NC - approved Nurse Aide I competency test. High School diploma or equivalent required.
Currently listed as a Nursing Assistant I (NAI) with the Division of Facility Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, fraud, neglect or misappropriation of property. BCLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hire orientation, which typically takes place during the first week of employment.
