The Division Director of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine (PACCSM) works closely with Department of Medicine, School of Medicine, Emory Healthcare and affiliate leadership (e.g., Grady Health System, Veterans Administration Health System) to lead, manage and promote the division's patient care, teaching and research. This position includes responsibility for overall management of the division (95 faculty, 55 staff), faculty development, physician practice operations, education of 30 pulmonary/critical care fellows, medical students, graduate students, and research program growth and development. This individual is a key champion and supporter of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and practices within the institution and the division. This position establishes programs that enhance the academic reputation of the division and improve quality of care, and plays a visible role in planning the strategic direction of the division for the Department.
As a Division Director and scientific researcher in Emory University School of Medicine's Department of Medicine, this visionary leader will strengthen Emory's expertise in research in pulmonary medicine. S/he will lead the Division of PACCSM to support strong basic, clinical, and health services research in lung development, lung inflammation/injury, lung regeneration/repair, asthma, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis, tuberculosis, and sepsis. The Division Director of PACCSM will be actively engaged in all aspects of pulmonary, allergy, critical care, and sleep research at Emory. The Division Director works closely with the fellowship program leadership to train future PACCSM academic physicians.
The Division Director also works closely with the Emory Clinic and Emory Healthcare leadership to ensure high quality pulmonary service to all patients, to coordinate pulmonary services across medical facilities, and to exercise appropriate operational deployment of pulmonary physicians and financial management of services. This individual will be a key partner with the leadership and faculty in the Emory Critical Care Center, Emory Transplant Center, and Emory Clinic Sleep Center. The PACCSM Division Director works closely with the Chair of the Department of Medicine to develop clinical programs involving pulmonary, allergy, critical care, and sleep medicine and plan new programs and services.
Qualifications
A qualified candidate will hold an MD or MD/PhD degree, be a board certified physician and a nationally recognized pulmonary researcher and clinician. The individual will provide leadership in all clinical, educational and research endeavors involving pulmonary disease for the faculty of the Division of PACCSM, with responsibility for the continued development of an academically distinguished Division of PACCSM for the Department of Medicine. Candidates should possess a minimum of eight (8) years of clinical/educational leadership experience. S/he will be an accomplished operational and strategic leader with direct administrative experience to include a broad understanding of complex health strategies and issues challenging the field of pulmonary and its medical education programs.
