SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The successful candidate will be responsible for direct patient care in the division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and compliance with guidelines as outlined in the collaborative agreement. The Nurse Practitioner will work as part of the clinical team that includes 20 Advance Practice Clinicians, 6 Neonatal Fellows 13 Neonatal Attending's, rotating Pediatric Residents, Respiratory Therapists, Dieticians, Pharmacists, Care Coordinators, Social Workers and other healthcare providers. The NICU at Penn State Health Children's Hospital is the only level 4 NICU in central Pennsylvania and serves a diverse population that includes extremely premature infants, as well as those with general and specialized surgical disorders, multiple anomalies including genetic disorders, complex congenital heart disease, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy requiring therapeutic hypothermia, and conditions requiring ECMO. The Nurse Practitioner relies on extensive experience, education, and clinical judgment to plan and accomplish treatment goals, shorten length of stay, and improve patient outcomes. A wide degree of patient care autonomy/latitude is expected. Following appropriate mentorship, the NP is credentialed and works independently and in collaboration with the attending physicians, peers and other members of the health care team to provide specialty care to critically ill patients. The NP provides education and instruction, both formal and informal, to residents, nurses, students, and other health care professionals. The CRNP participates in-house, round the clock coverage, coordinating, providing and managing the care of critically ill patients.
