Manager PICU
SUMMARY: This position is accountable for the overall supervision of direct and indirect care of patients and families. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of customer service, based on the family-centered care model. Manages human resources including performance and staff development. Manages department performance evaluation activities and facilitates on-going improvements to performance and safety.
Our critical care team has received the Beacon Award for Excellence by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) for exceptional patient care and healthy work environment. This is the fourth consecutive designation for Valley Children's, meaning that the PICU continuously aligns their practices with the AACN's rigorous standards while providing outstanding patient outcomes that rank among the best in the country. In addition, the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) team managed by the PICU is designated a Silver Level Path to Excellence Center by the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) for having processes in place that contribute to some of the best ECMO outcomes in the country. This is the highest level of award possible based on the age of our ECMO program.The PICU has 42 beds and over 150 staff, including 126 specialty-trained PICU nurses, respiratory therapists and other clinical specialists. Twelve of the ICU rooms are equipped to convert to surgical suites if an emergent event presents itself. The team cares for more than 1,500 children and their families each year and is one of the largest in the country based on bed capacity. In the field of intensive care, severity adjusted mortality rate is a key baseline benchmark, and in this arena Valley Children's PICU is ranked in the best 10% in the country.
REQUIREMENTS: This position requires graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor's degree, Master's Degree preferred. Candidate must possess a valid California RN license as well as HeartCode BLS. Candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of clinical RN experience (1 year of which shall have been in pediatric critical care nursing) and a minimum of 1 year of management experience, 5 years of increasingly responsible experience is preferred. Bilingual skills are preferred.
