Neuro ICU Critical Care/Acute Care Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA)

 

Position Summary

The Duke Hospital Neuro ICU Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) provides direct patient care services for critically ill complex (multi-organ) patients in an intensive care setting in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Neuro ICU Teams.   The NP/PA performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, coordinates the care and discharge of patients, and provides direct patient care services.  The NP/PA contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization.

 

Minimum Qualifications to Apply

• PA - Completion of accredited Physician Assistant Program with documented critical care rotations during training.
• NP - Completion of accredited Acute Care / Critical Care Nurse Practitioner Program
• PA - Current licensure to practice as PA in the State of North Carolina
• NP - Current licensure as RN in the state of North Carolina or compact state to practice as a NP
• PA – NCCPA certification required (PA-C)
• NP – nationally recognized certification as an ACNP or CCNP
• PA – 1 year experience as PA in a critical care setting OR a one year Critical Care Fellowship
• NP – 3 years RN experience in critical care setting + 1 year NP experience
• BLS
• ACLS
• (may also consider equivalent combinations of required/preferred education and experience)

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• PA - Masters Degree in Physician Assistant Studies
• PA/NP - Critical Care Fellowship trained
• NP - MSN
• NP - NP experience in a critical care setting, ideally Neuro ICU (may also consider equivalent combinations of required/preferred education and experience)

 

Hours

Primary hours will be 12 or 24 hour rotating shifts.  The APP team covers 7 days per week including holiday, nights and weekends. Schedule may be changed by administrative or clinical leadership to meet department needs.
