SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Performs comprehensive sleep testing and analysis, and associated interventions under the general supervision of a sleep technologist and/or the medical director or designee. Primarily responsible for preparing equipment, gathering patient information, reviewing study protocols and providing explanations of procedures to sleep study patients. Follows proper polysomnographic practices, including applying electrodes and sensors, calibrating equipment and fitting positive airway pressure masks. Duties also include testing preparation procedures, data acquisition, and observation documentation of sleep and wake stages and respiratory and cardiac events. Responsible for respiratory therapy duties including oxygen administration and assessment for respiratory care services under physician supervision. On-the-job training provided for polysomnographic responsibilities. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes consistent with evidence-based practice.
