Job Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist assists in providing instruction in respiratory techniques to hospital staff and students. Supervision is exercised over a number of respiratory therapists, technicians and students. Does related work as required.
Responsibilities:
Supervises, instructs and participates in the use of all respiratory equipment. Reviews therapy and treatment being given to patients to ensure that the physician's instructions are being carried out. Ensures the maintenance of a complete recordkeeping system recording the utilization and upkeep of equipment and other data, as required. Consults with physicians, nurses and other hospital staff on respiratory cases requiring therapy. Maintains an adequate supply of oxygen and other gases. Participates in the instruction of students, nurses, and other hospital staff in therapeutic techniques. Enforces safety rules and procedures. Participates in the training of new therapists on procedures at Westchester Medical Center. Keeps abreast of current developments in the field through publications, conferences, training seminars, etc. Qualifications/Requirements:
Experience:
2 years experience in critical care.
Education:
Associate's degree, required, Bachelor's, preferred.
Licenses / Certifications:
Possession of a valid license and current registration issued by the New York State Education Department as a Respiratory Therapist. Possession of registration as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care. ACLS/BLS certification.
