Kaiser Permanente-Washington Permanente Medical Group- is seeking a Part Time 0.5 FTE District Hospital Medical Director, Seattle.
The District Hospital Medical Director is accountable for delivering the KP Promise to every member, every time. The District Hospital Medical Director works collaboratively with their Health Plan Partner(s) and is accountable to build an integrated approach, improved communication and medical excellence in the acute care setting between KP hospitalists, specialists and contracted clinicians. Provide clinical leadership that improves patient care processes within and across our owned and operated hospital and the network, rounded contracted hospitals that KPWA provides direct care within: Set clinical standards and service expectations (eg. management of trauma patients, peri-op DVT prophylaxis, address service performance behaviors in contracted network clinicians) and serve to escalate concerns of delays in care within the IQM model; Acute care safety - sense trends, manage RCAs and escalate system issues to a leader who can affect change and build safety into operations; Improve clinical quality metrics for the hospital and acute care settings; Hospital relationship management/KP engagement-recruit and staff meaningful hospital committees, operations meetings, quality counsels; and Focus on improving patient centered transitions of care. The position is also responsible for building a reliable "escalation" process when there are concerns regarding patient safety delays in care including delays in diagnosis, surgical procedures or consultation in contracted hospitals. The role also partners with the KPWA patient safety department and KPWA risk management department to organize disclosure to patients when an adverse outcome occurs. Provide clinical leadership to build data/information reporting on current performance from the hospitals to drive operational decisions or quality evaluations.
The District Hospital Medical Director collaborates with the other Specialty Care and Primary Care Directors of Operation, Service Line Chiefs for the Hospitalists; as well as District Medical Directors to achieve the goals of improving care in the acute care setting. The Director is responsible for co-owning inpatient utilization (Patient day rate, admit and readmission rates, hospital length of stay goals and transition) in collaboration with hospitalist team at the preferred hospital and the district leaders. Supports the relationship with our contracted hospitals leadership team with the goal of ensuring safe and high-quality hospital processes that promote efficient inpatient care. This medical director role will be focused on operational improvements and the relationship with the hospitals and work with the district leadership structure on regional and enterprise strategy.
The District Hospital Medical Director and their health plan partners may be asked to take on other duties as directed by the leadership of WPMG and KPWA and work with other stakeholders to ensure all regulatory and accreditation standards are met or exceeded as appropriate for the scope of the services and sites.
