Research Nurse Specialist I Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
JOB SUMMARY: Under the guidance and supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Nurse Specialist I is responsible for assuring that the integrity and quality of the clinical research trial is maintained and that the trial is conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice Guidelines, federal and sponsor regulations and guidelines and Vanderbilt Policy and Procedure. The Research Nurse Specialist I plans and implements recruitment procedures for potential participants, manages enrollment of the trial from screening to randomization to study completion, ensures compliance with protocols and overall research and clinical objectives, manages study-related procedures as required by the protocol, maintains accurate and timely documentation and maintains communication with the sponsor. Department Summary:
The Division of Allergy, Pulmonary and Critical Care is directed by Dr. Timothy Blackwell and is composed of almost 90 faculty and over 150 staff members, serving a wide range of clinical programs, clinical and basic science research, and a strong Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship Program. It has over 75 current funded research grants including large multidisciplinary and training grants. The Division has activities in two hospitals, Vanderbilt University Hospital and the Nashville Veterans Administration Hospital.
Vanderbilt Pulmonology is among the top programs in the country and the top-ranked pulmonology program in Tennessee, according to U.S. News & World Report . VUMC is one of the only medical centers in Tennessee and surrounding states to provide specialized clinical programs to include a Cystic Fibrosis Center, Lung Transplantation, Pulmonary Fibrosis Center, and a Pulmonary Hypertension Center. Each clinical center is nationally recognized for excellence, and each center is linked to active research, both basic and translational. The newly formed Vanderbilt Lung Institute (VLI) is the first of its kind in the country and will announce its official launch in Spring 2020.
The Vanderbilt Pulmonary Division has a longstanding interest and scientific leadership in ARDS, sepsis, and Intensive Care Medicine, and has spearheaded many major clinical trials in ICU management. Active research programs in this area include cognitive outcomes in critical illness, ventilator management, biomarkers of lung injury, and nutrition in the ICU.
Other major research programs include basic science and epidemiology of asthma, oxidant injury in the lungs, pleural diseases, pulmonary vascular diseases, lung injury and repair, pulmonary host defense, and a growing program in lung carcinogenesis and early lung cancer detection.
