Coordinates Respiratory Care practices critical care. Acts as a clinical liaison between respiratory therapists, physicians, nurses and ancillary staff.
• Clinical Oversite/Coordination o Coordinates respiratory therapy activities in all neonatal and pediatrics with a focus of advance practice modalities and pathology. o Assists physician, nursing, and ancillary staff in the evaluation and treatment of patients with respiratory disorders. o Facilitates communication between RT, nursing and physician staff to assure a high level of patient care. o Participates as a key leader of the multidisciplinary leadership team with primary responsibility for quality and safety initiatives related to respiratory care and outcomes. o Administers all respiratory care modalities including continuous ventilator support o Assists in training of RTs, physician, and nursing staff in the application of respiratory equipment and techniques o Assists in data collection for clinical initiatives • Leadership/Education o Mentors and educates respiratory therapy staff on advanced problem solving situations in their clinical practice, while providing an approachable non-punitive environment for learning. o Acts as a clinical advisor for departmental committees, chairing committees in policy and procedures, standards of practice, and performance improvement. o Participates in direct patient care activities, for the purpose of maintaining clinical competence, mentoring respiratory therapy staff, and providing role modeling in the clinical environment. o Participates on hospital wide committees related to role and specialty area. o Maintains positive behavior, approach, attitude and commitment to interpersonal service towards patients, visitors, and/or coworkers. o Initiates activities to identify and improve departmental care variances. o Supports the achievement of hospital and department critical success factors. o Partners as leader with other departments and units to collaborate on education provided to nursing, ancillary and physician staff. • Program Development o Continually assesses respiratory care practices, research and articles to assure adequacy and adherence to current best practice standards. Identifies areas of clinical need and develops new therapeutic protocols and modalities as needed. o Advises Respiratory Therapy leadership on ongoing supply and equipment needs and product evaluation • Career Development o Coaches and mentors respiratory therapists to preceptor roles and responsibilities o Contributes to the evaluation of respiratory therapists by providing input to supervisors regarding clinical performance. o Mentors clinical staff in its use in improvement projects. o Mentors and supports respiratory therapy staff with advancement in NBRC credentialing, FCCS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, and clinical ladder projects. • Compliance Initiatives o Responsible for knowing and demonstrating National Patient Safety standards. o Participates in department-based activities and initiatives to improve and ensure a safe environment. o Participates in performance improvement activities; quality improvement and patient safety activities; assists in maintaining compliance with Joint Commission accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards including the code of conduct. o Provides surveillance and monitoring as well as education for clinical care variances. • Departmental Standards o Adheres to all respiratory therapy departmental and hospital guidelines, policies, expectations, as well as communication by email, huddles, postings and other communications. o Maintains all competencies, credential, licensures, continuing education credits as directed by the department and hospital. • Other duties as assigned.
