The Dialysis Registered Nurse will apply the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The Dialysis RN effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to the health care team.
Unit Summary :
The Dialysis Unit, also known as the Acute Hemodialysis/Apheresis Unit, in coordination with a multi- disciplinary team provides supportive therapies for Adult and Pediatric patients who are being treated for many diagnoses, requiring continuous and intermittent hemodialysis procedures as well as therapeutic apheresis, including therapeutic plasmapheresis, leukapheresis, LDL apheresis, therapeutic red cell exchanges, and platelet depletions. Our patients are unique because of they of their vast diagnoses and varied treatments.
The unit is comprised of eight beds including two isolation rooms. The patient ratio is 1:1 or 2:1. Remote procedures are performed at the patient's bedside based on acuity level.
One of the perks of working on the unit is the collaboration within our multi-disciplinary team. Together our team of nurses, providers, management, case managers, and social workers provide each patient the treatment they require.
Our nurses are successful because they have supportive peers who believe in teamwork, continuous learning and applying critical care knowledge during treatments. We orient new nurses to our unit by providing a progressive orientation that is structured to meet the needs of the learner based on their previous experiences.
