Provides direct and indirect patient care in the Urgent Care setting. Provides care that meets the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care; meets the communication needs of patient and family; provides care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations, under the supervision of a registered nurse and/or physician. Maintains regulatory requirements, nursing and office/clinic policies, procedures and standards. Communicates with physicians and team members about patient's clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a RN when appropriate and physician/provider, evaluates outcomes, consults with other health team members as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
Ability to assess and reassess pain and pain management techniques utilized. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
Performing observations of patients' physical, psychological and social needs
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Use triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients.
Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring and able to alert provider to possible dysrhythmias.
Demonstrates knowledge of respiratory monitoring identifies oxygen needs.
Preps and runs EKG tracings for patients
Prepares, hangs, monitors and discontinues IVs within scope of practice
Assists the physician(s) with office procedures; maintains medical and surgical asepsis.
Maintains medical equipment; disinfects and sterilizes instruments.
Ability to perform waived testing(point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory's and patient care unit's policies and procedures.
Ability to interpret the results of waived tests; takes appropriate action on waived tests
Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served. Able to interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition.
Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
Medical and surgical asepsis is carried out during treatments and special procedures.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to coworkers, physicians/providers and office/clinic manager.
Demonstrates the ability to assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills. As directed by a physician/provider
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.
Interacts professionally with patient and family and involves patient and family in patient education.
Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; includes family in teaching, as appropriate.
Demonstrates ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient's response to treatment.
Demonstrates the ability to perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure.
Meets current documentation standards and policies.(remove and replace with the following) Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses and assessment of changes.
Demonstrates knowledge of lab requirements, requisitions.
Maintains established office/clinic policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with office/clinic standards.
Answers telephone calls in a professional manner; refers patient problems to office/clinic physician; schedules patient appointments.
Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
Assists in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
Maintains a good working relationship with all staff members of the office/clinic.B
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Response is appropriate to the patient in emergency or physically distressful situations.
Orients new staff to department
Performs other duties as assigned within the LPN/LVN scope of practice.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.
Adheres to dress code.
Completes annual educational requirements.
Maintains regulatory requirements.
Wears identification while on duty.
Maintains confidentiality at all times.
Attends department staff meetings as required within the department.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.
Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations and standards
Communicates and complies with the Benefis Health System Mission, Vision and Values as well as the focus statement of the department.
Complies with Benefis Health System Organization Policies and Procedures.
Complies with Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines.
Current LPN/LVN licensure in State of Montana.
Current BLS certification.
