Under the direction of Medical Directors and Patient Care Services Transport Manager, provides comprehensive, safe and effective medical care to neonatal, pediatric and adult patients transported by the CHM Critical Care Transport Team, PANDA One, via ground and air ambulance. Applies special techniques, precautions and procedures in providing basic care and responding to life-threatening situations. Conducts a comprehensive initial and ongoing assessment of patientï¿½s health status to determine patientï¿½s physical and emotional status, initiating appropriate intervention as needed. Utilizing the nursing process, clinical judgment and technical skills, performs routine as well as complex therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as directed by policies, treatment guidelines and medical control directive.
Performs Procedures Unique to the Transport Function including:
Oral Endotracheal Intubation
Maintain Oral / Nasal Endotracheal Tubes
LMA Insertion and Maintenance
Maintenance of Tracheostomy Tubes
Effective Ambubag Mask ventilation
Initiation and maintenance of mechanical ventilation ï¿½ conventional and high frequency
Evaluation and administration of oxygen, nitric oxide and heliox
Conduct effective resuscitation as outlined by BLS, NRP, PALS, ACLS, and ABLS protocol
Interpret laboratory reports and radiographic studies
Needle decompression of Pneumothorax
Defibrillation, cardio version and external pacing
Ventilator management ï¿½ conventional and high frequency
Provide whole body cooling of neonatal HIE patients
Coordinates, guides and monitors the work of non-nursing members of the transport team. Documents all information relative to patient care during transport; maintains all records and logs relative to patient transport.Communicates with patients, physicians, staff and referral hospital regarding the patientï¿½s condition and progress.Maintains all nursing transport equipment and supplies according to procedures; assists in the evaluation of equipment and supplies for transport.Reports all problems relative to transport to the Manager of Patient Care Services ï¿½ Transport Team; discusses management of patient problems with appropriate CHM Transport Team Medical Directors physicians as necessary; recommends solutions as appropriate.Assist in the overall maintenance and evaluation of the transport program; attends monthly meetings to critique clinical aspects of the critical care transport program; participates in the development of transport program policies and procedures.Participates in teaching activities related to transport for in-house and referral hospital staff in addition to identifying and providing relevant instruction to patient/family.Participates in activities and increase neonatal and pediatric critical care transport nursing knowledge, professional expertise, and the delivery of quality patient care.Establishes and maintains working relationships with other hospital personnel relative to the nursing care function. Adheres to hospital and department policies, procedures, and objectives and performs other duties as assigned.
1.Bachelorï¿½s of Science degree in Nursing or currently enrolled in BSN program.
2.Michigan license to practice as a registered nurse.
3.Three years of pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care or level 1 pediatric trauma experience.
4.Must be currently working in pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care or level 1 pediatric trauma.
5.Holds current passport or enhanced driverï¿½s license or is eligible to apply for one.
ACLS or successful completion during orientation
ï¿½C-NPT or successful completion within 1 year of hire date
ï¿½ABLS or successful completion during orientation.
7.Teaching Experience preferred.
