As the nation’s leader in pediatric leadership executive search, MillicanSolutions has partnered with the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP) to identify a new Head of the Department of Pediatrics. The Head of the Department of Pediatrics (equivalent to Chair, Pediatrics in other academic institutions) will serve as the academic, clinical, and administrative leader of the Department, which consists of approximately 145 faculty members in 19 divisions and provides general pediatric and subspecialty services to the pediatric population in Central Illinois. As the Head of the Department, the incoming candidate will be responsible for building a nationally recognized program in children’s health through the recruitment, retention and development of existing faculty. The Head of the Department of Pediatrics will additionally be responsible for making sure the Department’s strategic vision and values are aligned with both UICOMP and OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois (CHOI). This leadership position offers an opportunity to strengthen and grow the pediatrics clinical enterprise, enhance the collaborative research environment and expand graduate medical education at UICOMP. UICOMP seeks an individual who is a collaborative and visionary leader, has strong record in academic medicine, and administrative experience as a division chief or program leadership. The ideal candidate should have leadership skills as a listener, team player, and decision maker. UICOMP seeks a leader who understands the future of pediatrics and child health and will serve as a strong advocate for pediatrics care, medical education and pediatrics related research. Qualified individuals must be a MD or MD/PhD with sustained record of scholarly activity, be at rank of Associate Professor or Professor, be board certified in Pediatrics and eligible for medical licensure in Illinois. Located in Peoria, IL, UICOMP is one of four regional campuses that make up one of the nation’s largest public medical schools, and is part of a 900 bed hospital district containing two hospital systems as well as a medical school. UICOMP’s educational programs include 244 medical students and 300 residents/fellows training in 13 ACGME-accredited residency programs and 8 ACGME-accredited fellowships. The Peoria campus is known among medical students for its small class sizes, rigorous curriculum and hands-on clerkships: by residents and fellows for the strong academic setting, large referral base and exceptional facilities; and by physicians seeking the ideal combination of teaching and practicing medicine in a research-based university setting. OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois is a 136 bed full-service children’s hospital that serves as the pediatric teaching affiliate of UICOMP. The OSF Children’s Hospital is home to more than 145 pediatric sub-specialists practicing in 40+ subspecialties. It has 64 neonatal beds, 8 level II nursery beds, 32 pediatric critical care beds, 16 pediatric oncology beds and 16 general pediatric beds. OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois is the only Level IV neonatal intensive care unit outside Chicago and the Regional Perinatal Center for Central Illinois. It is home to the first state-designated Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in downstate Illinois and houses the Jim and Trudy Maloof St. Jude affiliate, a program providing care for children with oncological and hematological disorders with state-of-the-art protocols from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Children’s Oncology Group. In addition, this department provides other key clinical services including the Cystic Fibrosis Center (one of 115 accredited centers in the US), Hemoglobinopathy/Sickle Cell Program and the Pediatrics Resource Center (PRC). The PRC combines medical and social services in the evaluation and treatment of children suspected of physical abuse, sexual abuse and /or neglected children. The medical school is a partner in the new 67,000 square foot Jump Simulation Center (www.jumpsimulation.org) offering some truly unique opportunities for innovative curriculum. JUMP provides state of the art simulation for use in both education and assessment.
