The primary purpose of this full time position is to assist the Pediatric Congenital Heart Surgeon by using an in-depth knowledge of this complex patient population. The Pediatric Congenital Heart APP position is critical to the success of this program. The duties of this position will include first assisting the attending Congenital Heart Surgeon in performing complex congenital cardiac surgical repair. This position will also provide inpatient and outpatient care and daily rounding in the NICU/PICU. This position works a flexible schedule based on rounds, conferences, clinical research, and special assignments in collaboration with a physician. This position is expected to perform duties, responsibilities and most assignments with considerable autonomy and self-direction in providing total medical care for patients. Requires an advanced degree from an accredited program.
Completion of an accredited (PA or FNP) training program licensure and certifications required. Because of the first assistant requirement, an FNP must have documented first assistant experience prior to 1/1/2016 or have completed a certified surgical first assistant program. Must be North Carolina License eligible. Board of certification is required.

Completion of an accredited graduate-level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program. Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (i.e., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in the state of North Carolina. Board certification if required by the Department.
