Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant
The George Washington University Hospital is seeking an Advanced Practitioner (Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner) for the Cardiac Surgery Program. The PA/NP provides critical care and step down care for Cardiac Surgery patients, including admissions, consults, and discharges. The PA/NP will order and interpret labs; participate in chest tube placement; manage Swan Ganz catheters, intra-aortic balloon pumps, drains, and pacemakers; place central venous lines and arterial lines; order appropriate imaging; present patients at rounds; perform physical examinations; create treatment plans; prescribe medications in accordance with guidelines; etc. The PA/NP monitors patient outcomes and initiates/participates in quality improvement activities. This role serves as a primary liaison for all disciplines and services interfacing with the Cardiac Surgery Service. Shifts are 12 hours, providing coverage for 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. The NP /PA will be credentialed according to the medical staff regulations and will be under the supervision of appropriately credentialed attending physicians.
