Job Summary The critical care physician extender works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team. The critical care physician extender generally functions as an intensivist within designated intensive care unit and manages the critical care aspect of the assigned patient's intensive care stay from admission to transfer. The critical care physician extender has a strong foundation in evidenced based practice and education and has a responsibility for ensuring adherence to critical pathways and protocol and ensures an enviroment of safe quality care. The physician extender demonstrates as advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgement, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and take responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation.All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision, and values of Phoebe. Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age- specific customer service skills.
Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines
General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels.
May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights.
May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms.
May be required to change from one task to another of different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
Long-distance or air travel as needed - not to exceed 10% travel.
Have near normal hearing; Hear alarms/telephone/tape recorder/normal speaking voice
Have near normal vision: Clarity of vision (both near and far), ability to distinguish colors
Have good manual dexterity
Have good eye-hand-foot coordination
Ability to perform repetitive tasks/motion
Occasionally within shift (1-33%) : Standing,Climbing,Pushing/Pulling,Lift/carry up to 20 lbs,Lift/carry > 20 lbs with assistance,Lift/carry > 50 lbs with assistance.
Frequently within shift (34-66%) : Sitting,Bending/Stooping,Twist at waist,Reaching above shoulder.
Continuously within shift (67-100%) : Walking.
Certifications and Licensures Required Certifications/Licensures : Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR),Department Specific Certifications may be required.,Maintains CEU's and membership in a professional organization,Board Certification,Eligible for DEA,TN APN Certificate/Certificate of fitness to prescribe,Current license and/or certification as defined by the Georgia Board of Nursing or Georgia Medical Composite Board as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse .
